a human rights approach to healthy diets

In October 2019, 180 global health leaders called on Tedros Adhanom, Director General of the World Health Organization, and Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to initiate a process to develop guidance on human rights and healthy diets. The call outlines why a human rights-based approach to healthy diets is sorely needed to advance action on NCDs and health, and suggests key focus areas and a proposed process for developing international guidelines and strengthening the links between human rights and healthy diets.

The Food Diaries

the power of a mcdonalds ad

What, and who, influences what we eat? Far from being a free choice, we believe that our food habits are deeply influenced by the societies and everyday environments we exist within.

To answer this question, school children in the UK and Bangladesh have been filming these influences to help us better understand the everyday environments which, across much of the globe, are making it increasingly difficult for people to achieve healthy diets.

It is only human rights applications to food and nutrition interventions that will guarantee sustainable food security and zero hunger for everyone, everywhere.
