Healthy Societies is an initiative that brings together policy-makers, academics and other stakeholders from a range of sectors and assembles the best available evidence to advocate for a world where everyone enjoys better health and well-being through more sustainable means – protecting both people and planet.
In October 2019, 180 global health leaders called on Tedros Adhanom, Director General of the World Health Organization, and Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to initiate a process to develop guidance on human rights and healthy diets. The call outlines why a human rights-based approach to healthy diets is sorely needed to advance action on NCDs and health, and suggests key focus areas and a proposed process for developing international guidelines and strengthening the links between human rights and healthy diets.
